New Zealand Airlines
Most international flights operate
in and out of Auckland and Christchurch, with lesser frequency to and from
Hamilton, Wellington, Dunedin, Queentown and Invercargill. All major towns have airports
with frequent internal flights by three major airlines - Air New Zealand, and Pacific Blue.
Air New Zealand - New Zealand's national carrier operates both as domestic
airline as well as an International Airline and was voted TOP AIRLINE for 2010 by Air Transport World.
From Kaitaia in far north of the North Island to Te Anau and Invercargill
in the South of the South Island, Air New Zealand in association with Eagle
Airways Ltd, Mount Cook Airline Ltd and Air Nelson Ltd covers the whole country.
Depending on the route being flown, aircraft types range from Metroliner
III, Embrarer Bandeirante, Saab 340A with Air New Zealand using the popular
Boeing 737 between Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Christchurch, Dunedin,
Invercagill, Timaru and Queenstown. Flight times between popular destinations
such as Auckland to Wellington take approximately one hour and Auckland to
Christchurch takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
Internationally, Air New Zealand is part of the Star Alliance as well as
having a regional alliance with Ansett and Singapore airlines. Direct flight
destinations include the traditional long haul routes to London, Manchester,
Frankfurt, Toronto, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Tokyo,Taipei ,Hong Kong, and
Singapore. This is in addition to the many flights to Australia's Sydney,
Brisbane,Cairns, Melbourne, Perth as well as the Pacific Islands such as
Fiji, Tonga, Papeete, Noumea and Apia - Western Samoa.
On Air New Zealand's international route, the aircraft used are the Boeing
747's, 767's and with the Boeing 737 used for the shorter hauls to places
like Norfolk Island.
